Drift

by David Neubauer

I remember the look in your eyes,
_the smiles I saw there, the warmth.
__I remember the look in your eyes,
___the color of your hair, sitting in the
__sunlight, golden red and bright copper,
_stunningly beautiful and incredibly alluring.
But now everything is winter, and the skies
_are gray and thunderclouds loom large on
__the horizon. So let me stand out in the wind,
___its cold fury warming me, and let me hold my
______solitude, as I watch the clouds drift on. I will
_____always remember the look in your eyes,
____even as I sit staring into the abyss, looking
___for one last ray of your sunlight in my life.
