rework of Alaina's "ma'am or miss or mister..."

by Kimberly Bare

maybe i just think too much
creating complications and such
i really think my name is fine
if only it had not been mine

letters edged in citrus zeal
seeping under nails, to feel
the sultry syllable and curve
carving out your own sweet word

{innocence, laughter, ambition you seek
Alaina, books don't see beneath
you decide what is in your cards
much more than "comely, fair" you are}

Author's Note: This is only my rendition of Alaina Schneider's poem...for a project on the New Beat Movement forum...you should definitely go to her library and check out the original poem, it's beautiful!
