Cherries

by S.J. Tyler

I love maraschino cherries
She says it’s a terrible metaphor
That I love to steal everyone’s cherries
Yes, I’m a glutton
But I want to collect them all
And slurp them down
Lick my lips
So that the artificial red sugar liquid
Doesn’t slurp down my chin
For a metaphor
It doesn’t quite fit
The sugary red doesn’t look a thing
Like blood
And that’s what they meant by cherries
Isn’t it?
Screw intellectualism
Searching for links between everything
They’re yummy
I said I’d continue to go around popping-
I mean eating them, anyway
She got me two jars

Delicious and playful little verse that is both cute and Freudian all wrapped up into one!

I love cherries as well, I remember I had one a long time ago and if my memory serves me right, it was wonderful
