Hold Me Close in the Night

by Thomas K. Hunt

Shroud me with a blanket of stars
Hold me close in the night
There's a reason I've come this far
This is what I'm trying to write

I can't escape this fertile soil
My roots are strong and deep
My time is limited between my toil
I gather up all I can reap

The road is long but a familiar one
I've traveled it many times
It leads me to the river
Where I can rest my mind

A summer breeze in the mid day sun
The sound of laughter in the air
A feeling of content when the day is done
Remembering days without a care

Please steal me away, don't let me go
I won't put up a fight
Keep me here forever more
Hold me close in the night
