Penny, to Cliff (Dirty) [Poetry Clinic Exercise]

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

Cliff...
His voice always struck me like a needle...
sharp and easily injurous

I got a buzz
everytime he'd soil me with his body
in the back of his orange Explorer

I'd use his thrusts to cloud
the echo of my mother's voice-
drowning out each scold with each lick.

Afterwards he'd light a blunt and I'd suck on a blueberry dum-dum...
A Penny craved is a Penny burned
