topic: a single bare light fixture by Lindsay Sanderspitch dark, and i trip
falling in the dim corner
with nothing to clasp on to;
not a sight to be seen
because the caliginous
room that i attempt to leave
continues to trap me inside.
reaching out, endeavoring
to see anything, searching
for even a slight shade to
counteract the utter obscurity
of the dark, my fingers find
something cold. grasping
wildly to the chain i pull
with ferocity; effulgent
incandescence strikes blue
irises with a sharp stab of pain.
swiftly shut, my eyes find refuge
in the dark, so quickly jerked
away by a single bare light fixture.
