tough love

by Olivia Weinkein

use a needle this time
stick it in
and remember i always have a free hand
to slap you with to find the vein.
i'll watch you die.
i am not afraid because long ago,
i learned how not to be.
this is going to hurt you more than it hurts me.
and they weren't kidding.
well, i'm not either.
i'm only dreaming of the poetry
that will come from this.
feeding my addiction by watching you feed yours.
who ever said a little death didn't make them feel
more alive was lying.
and i'm cold but not as cold as you will be.
this room is starving for just this sort of tragedy
and who are we to let it down.

Author's Note: we are all dying, some a little more obvious than others. i refuse to try and save those who threaten to take me tumbling right along with them. addiction's a bitch but she's an awfully pretty one.

This is an amazing poem that talks of things so simple to human nature and yet so taboo..... wonderful. By the way, the author's note is almost a poem in and of itself. Two for the price of one in this one!
