Creature teacher

by Aaron Howard

The creature that lurks in your dreams, all black and shiny like.
The little creature that you can't even outrun on your motorbike...
That creature that can overtake you at it's most convenient whim.
The one you can't out run, out fly or even, out swim...
The one that hunts you down in your head at night.
The one that fills your inner soul with fright..
The creature that is unseen yet remains close by.
The dark creature with the evil glaring black eyes...
The creature that represents all you fear.
The creatures scampering, you faintly hear..
The shadows looming in the dark room around you
and your misgivings of assurance are coming up so few.
You sweat as you hear the sound of nails on the wall
as you know the creature is just outside in the hall..
Your palms sweat as you feel the breath on the back of your spine
and out of this nightmare you desperately try to climb...
Fearing for your life, fearing for your soul.
Fear is the only thing really in control.
The creature laughs at your futile attempt to escape
as it's teeth grip you neck by the nape...
You feel the tension rip you from that wall
as your dragged kicking and screaming down that hall.
The creature fears nothing, not even you
and all your misconceptions are so new.
The creature knows all about your fear
until one day its all shown clear.
The creature is your soul and from it you'll never elude
for this comes down to something more along the lines of soul food.
For you have to deal with your fear everyday
and try to overcome your fears in any way...
You shouldn't run from it, confront it
instead of dealing with the excess bullshit.
Take the problem head on
and awake to a fresh new dawn.

Author's Note: I wrote this about how overcomming your nightmares could make you a stronger person...
