(Hunted) Warrior

by Stephanie Kent

Warpaint smeared on a stern face
Tanned and chiseled from fistfights with the sun;
Bronzed arms, sinews of untold strength,
Locked in combat with hands pale and frozen.
Lunging, stabbing, grappled in foretold fierceness;
Eyes of drizzled honey meet eyes of frigid blue,
And the duel is halted, for a season.
Indian Summer withdraws from the icy skirmish,
But his battle cry will be heard again...
