fighting with the sun.

by Olivia Weinkein

here, hold my breath
i'm going down.
you are so foolish to ever believe in
anything i give to you, but i love you
nonetheless.

and i just want to say
that October is pushing me into strange
corners and i cannot stop blinking to
save my life.

my, my, my

such strange creatures have fallen from
the cracks in the ceiling and if you would,
please do this one thing for me, look up at the sky
and tell me if it is still falling.

baby, time is going to out-live us all.
and we are so busy inside ourselves
that we're just going to lie back
and let it.

"October is pushing me into strange corners" - yes, that is a wonderful line. So are "look up at the sky and tell me if it is still falling" and the whole last stanza. This is remarkable.

Powerful and somewhat hopeless sentiment that is presented with emotional force. Great read.
