topic: close to death and no where near home by Rachelle Howeit would figure.
i would be caught here,
in this fray, in this damned car,
waiting for the doors to eat me.
i'm late for my next appointment,
though you wouldn't know it by the friz.
i can't remember if i left the coffee on.
susan is bound to remember to shut it off.
at least, i hope so.
wait, green light.
my foot slammed the petal, the gas
screaming "GOGOGOGO!"
i did. the peel and shriek was undeniable,
i had been pursued by some sixteen wheeler.
it was over before it began, this game of blindspot chicken.
it would figure.
i would be caught here,
close to death, and no where near home.

Posted by Don Coffman on 10/19/03 at 07:31 AM I'm amazed as ever. 'GOGOGO!' indeed (but look both ways first). Kinda spooky, but neatly topped off with that resigned humor (as I did once when I nearly slammed into a car that ran a stop sign, going about 50, thinking "*sigh* I don't want to crash today." and then laughing about it as the tires were squealing). |
