Not a Carbon-Copy

by Amanda J Cobb

Seated in matching, mass-produced desks,
the others absorbed
in their own temporary escapes,
yet I am strangely detached,
lecture passing beyond me,
barely touching.
No escape for me,
none needed:
I am a world apart from them
and have just realized, in this moment,
that I always have been.

I get that sensation sometimes. Your own universe that has nothing to do with theirs, but they coexist and intertwine. This is cool Amanda, real cool.
