silver

by Bet Yeldem

in shadowy spaces
cloud covered
i crouch hiding
from spying eyes
and prying lips
trying to save me
from the world

waiting watching
whispering wishes
for a spark --
lightning hope
that never comes
only thunder
forever rain

i lap the wetness
of the puddle
where others splash
take the sparkle
of water
to my tongue
transcending
the shimmer is
a silver lining
dappling light
into my safe
charcoal existence
where
embers linger
longing
for the flame

"where embers linger, longing for the flame"...I really love those last lines...so vivid...
