Assaulting Pain

by Aaron Howard

Pain and lost love are two things everyone holds close and near.
Back when you think about the one you lost and the one you held dear.
Back when you wished you could turn back the hands of the clock.
Back when you weren’t always in such a state of remorseful shock.
We all know what it's like to win some and always lose
and some of us don't even get the option of what to choose.
We all want to tear up when we think of those good times gone past
and how you think about how you could have somehow made it last.
How someone so close long ago can be so far away today
and now you're left alone without a thoughtful word to say.
I know it's just a fleeting dream of what's in the past
but what can you expect when time flies by so fast?
Not knowing when to look forward or to look back.
Never knowing when pain is going to go on the attack.
This dream to fade into the reality of Assaulting pain
And wondering if it’s worth all these lessons you gain…

Author's Note: I wrote this about how hindsight it always 20/20 but the future seems to be fuzzy... I rewrote it a bit, and even added the title into the poem finally.. fixed some horrible grammer...
