who i choose to be, here

by Indigo Tempesta

who have i become, here at Oberlin?
my peace,
like a hummingbird, gone.
here at Oberlin, i've no
internal measure; here,
i am
a stranger (in many ways.)
the crimes i commit, i commit
full-knowing the cost
and i pay it
more than fully.

for who i choose to be here at Oberlin,
there is no resolution.
there is no absolution for the crimes i have done,
though i suffer
more than fully;
though i bleed more than payment
for my deeds.
