Right, That Night

by Karl Waldbauer

"could it be,"
she said to me,
"could it be
it's me?"
"no, my dear,
you see, I'm queer,
it certainly isn't you."

"you seemed so hot
and now you're not,
was it the pot
or the squeaky cot?"
she searched for a clue
but we both knew
why the girl couldn't keep me hard.

"so, you need a guy,
I wonder why,
but I'll not cry,"
she said with a sigh.
"we'll get you a man
as fast as we can
and our friendship will grow even stronger."

was it the pot or the squeaky cot?"...every woman has asked that question, at least when they were in college! LOL!....you had me at the second stanza. with the way i see the world, I would have stopped there for the punch, but adding your third stanza brings in humanity. an aw shucks, karl, from up north in the bay.

I'm not a huge fan of the rhyme in this poem, but I found it pretty funny, in one of those, "Isn't life so nice to us all?" ways.

this is delightful. i love how the end worked out. "we'll be best of friends and i will set you up with the boys that I cant get." is how it went in my head....
