The woman with soft brown eyes

by Ronald A Pavellas

A Woman with Soft Brown Eyes
Has warmed me to her hearth
Where the charming chaos of family life
Surrounds a core of love and peace

She, no longer her girlish self
And I, well past her new age of fifty
Accept in wonderment
The youthfulness of our spirits

We have discarded theories
Of cause and effect and of fate
In favor of celebrating our lives
Combined and individual

We are one, yet not One
We can disagree, sometimes energetically
But the core of love and peace
Provides a cushion for our return

On this her fiftieth birthday
Raise high our glasses
Friends and family -- A toast!
To the woman with soft brown eyes
