topic: you pulled the words to the front of my mouth

by Rachelle Howe

you:
the splinter under my fingernails
(i still smell you there.)

i held you
like a cradled baby
while you sang woe is me
i spoon fed you 'til you woke.

you:
that wayward child.
that blissful hex and moan.
the one who pulled the words
to the front of my mouth
and said hello.
