07. let your shoulder fall by Philippa JaneI heard of your plummet this
afternoon, eight days belated.
They said you tumbled from a
window, your words as parched as
your pavement grave below. Yet
I merely stumbled, even as your
suicide note peered out from
between my chapped lips,
nauseatingly hollow.
Temptation's depth suffocated
your fight -
and you let your shoulder
fall. 10/01/2003 Author's Note: This piece was difficult for me to write.. The title "let your shoulder fall" is a tribute in memory of Matthew Jay, taken from his song by the same name.

Posted by Max Bouillet on 10/02/03 at 06:43 PM I don't feel as though anything is lacking. This is exceptionally well done especially with the sensitive subject matter. I do feel a void... the void left when someone leaves and I believe this poem really captures that feeling. |
Posted by Karen Michelle on 10/03/03 at 02:56 AM Philippa, I agree with the above noters - nothing is lacking. When death is the subject matter, somehow words never feel adequate but you have managed to encapsulate this tragic moment in such a hauntingly beautiful way. |
Posted by Karen Michelle on 10/12/03 at 02:17 PM I downloaded this song today and it was every bit as beautiful as I had expected. What a tragic loss. |
