What if No one saw Her Fall

by Holly H Dunne

Late one night a girl worked until her mucles began to ache
She brushed and mopped the floor until she felt like she would break
In the same room, but yet so far from her, six others worked hard too
And as their conversation livened her weariness grew
Her head was light, her eyes were heavy and she leaned against the wall
No one saw her eyes droop and no one saw her fall

Late one night a girl walked until her muscles began to ache
Tired and breathless, she didn't want to stay awake
The inky night was icy cold but she was numb to feeling
Apathy had consumed her soul and she was immune to healing
She stood over the jet black sea and listened to its call
She took one final step and no one saw her fall

Late one night a girl was born, 19 years ago
Abandoned by her father, she was left to grow
And although she seemed content from the outside looking in
She hid behind an empty smile, she knew she could not win
Slowly and then suddenly she became a lifeless doll
She's still lying on the floor and no one saw her fall.

Author's Note: This poem was inspired by something quite simple. i fainted in work one night and when i woke up one of my friends said she hadnt noticed me falling, she'd just looked round and i was on the floor. and that one phrase " i didnt see you fall" inspired me to write yet another joy filled p[oem.
