A Walk in a Halloween Night

by Christopher Shin

To the days of those gone
and the future of my mind.
To wraiths that hunt the
endless dreams of my past
with misery and agony of
how the world has gone wrong.

As I stagger down the dark
night of full moons and star
filled skies I breathe in the
dark night's air quickly at first,
as if each breathe was more
delicious then the first.

What is it about this night that
makes my heart leap and swore
in this dreary night with children
chasing around like fiends in
a demonic dance of pandemonium?

I smile as they laugh and cheer
as treats of chocolate and cream
fill their small buckets.
I wonder if the darkness in me
desired to be young again.
To hunt the night with my true
face gleaming in the moon light
so that all can see my true visage.

I shake my head and smile as I toss
treats into these sprites who dance
the night away with the traditions
of long ago that seem to never die.
A tradition of the dead and the
past and the future of my mind.

I like the contrast with the darkness in you being the child. The images switch back and forth from misery and elation, nice changes.

This is so wonderfully introspective and at the same time masterfully observant of the outside world in its history that it is hard to let it slip from memory.... greatverse!
