short on rent by Rachelle Howe
your body has been
subleased and i
i am filling the holes.
i've been painting portraits
of your hips and thighs for hours
randomly
on the walls and ceiling
of my one-bedroom, and i
i wish you were here.
you've been bent
crawling inside my ribcage
after i swallowed you, a bird, kept.
you could fly, but you'd rip me
from the inside out and i
i am not looking forward to those wounds.
but tonight, with the guitar strings of my spine,
i've been painting you, in the music and
against my tongue.
