short on rent

by Rachelle Howe

your body has been
subleased and i
i am filling the holes.

i've been painting portraits
of your hips and thighs for hours
randomly
on the walls and ceiling
of my one-bedroom, and i
i wish you were here.

you've been bent
crawling inside my ribcage
after i swallowed you, a bird, kept.
you could fly, but you'd rip me
from the inside out and i
i am not looking forward to those wounds.

but tonight, with the guitar strings of my spine,
i've been painting you, in the music and
against my tongue.

Oh, lovely. Such desirous, personal language.

"but tonight, with the guitar strings of my spine, i've been painting you, in the music and against my tongue"...god that's beautiful...shakes me to my very core...lovely darling, lovely...

An excellent verse... the imagery and voice are very unique and one that has the eerie resonance of longing. Great read.

Your imagery and the phrases you've used in here are amazing. It very much conveys the emotions inspired by beauty.
