Ages

by Richard Vince

My hands look old when
The Sun shines upon them.
Perhaps this means I have
Grown up after all,
Though sometimes I feel
Younger than the life I am living.

Something tells me I am yet to see
Enough of my life to start
Tampering with other people's,
Though I never know whether
Anyone is really ready for that.

Maybe none of us see enough
Of our own lives before
We have to hand them back
From whence they came.

Lately I have been seeing too little,
But now my eyes are opening again,
And the sky and the grass and
The trees have reacquired their colours
And I am learning to be
Awestruck again after so many
Cold, emotionless days.

Now though, the year is growing old,
And the cold will remind me of all
The silly ideas all these winters
Have given me in the past that
I am now so good at forgetting
For the rest of the year.

Back then though I felt too old
To smile without casting my mind
Further back into the childhood
I was still living.

Sometimes I think I feel
Younger now, though mostly
I feel no age at all, because
Somewhere I always remember
Just how ageless we all are.

All I need to do really
Is to stop thinking and
Try living again.

'All I need to do really Is to stop thinking and Try living again.' Well, Thats what counts. The moment one 'lived' and not one was trying to postpone. The process of life and death walks hand in hand. Very thoughtful.

I love the last lines they are a very moving idea. You can either live life or live in fear of it it is your choice. Yet another wonderful poem. Good Job!

Sometimes it is feeling rather than thinking that gets us through. Lovely as usual Richard. Really gorgeous.
