Frenzied Lullaby

by David Neubauer

Rock-a-bye Baby, go fast to sleep,

In that moment,
stuck between your eyelids
and the cieling,
you find the place of shadows.

Don't let the shadows into you creep,

When your eyes close,
and you watch the swirling
neon stars burning through
your consciousness,
searing out the thoughts,
vanquishing your energy,
there you find the solace.

Watch where you lay your head for the night,

As you lie there,
that stabbing pain in your shoulder,
causing you to wonder,
"who will I be tomorrow,
where will I go,
who will be my life?"
It's in those moments,
that show you stasis.

And hope you survive the loneliness bite.

Some days, sleep just won't come...
