if i forget (counting on scars)

by Richard Paez

picking scabs
to make the wound last
just a little longer
so sweet and subtle
my last remaining
taste of you

if i forget
if i forget
can i count on scars
to keep me company?

if i forget
if i forget
can i count on scars
to add up memories?

can i divide by time
factor the pain
can we be left
with a shining reminder
a sweet and lasting remainder
of those last unwounded moments
before we canceled out?

picking scabs
to make the wound last
just a little longer
i don't want to lose
my last remaining
taste of you

if i forget
if i forget
can i count on scars
to help me remember?

Amazing what makes us feel close to people at times. Powerful..now to find the bandaid for your scars? Powerful and bittersweet.
