D. A Gift ~ My Heart

by Christel Crews

As I was waiting for him to show up,
I realized I was holding my breath.
I knew the gravity of the situation before me and
I knew the consequences my actions (either way) could make.

As he strolled along through the entry way,
he walked with a steady, melodic pace
and I realized just what I was about to do.
He smiled as He approached
"Goodevening, love, how are you?"

"I'm ready for the rain"
I replied, hoping he'd understand.

He sat and handed me an umbrella.
I almost laughed as it began to drizzle.

"I love the rain" I said with a smile.

"But you're hoping this physical rain
will wash away pain unseen"

Something wet filled my eyes
Inner rain, coming forth.
"Please take this." I whispered
I don't want it anymore. It seems when I try to guard it
I only hurt it more."

He took the small package that I withdrew from my bag
and as He opened up the box, tears filled his eyes.
He took the contents out of the box and held it to his heart.
"I will guard this with all my might.
I'll guard it with MY heart."

Truly...Very captivating. But, I am so eager to know what was in the box. Is it your Heart? Sorry for being dumb...
