Denial of the Maker by Karen MichelleYou stunned my bluntness
with your early retirement -
demonstrating the true meaning
of keeping one's word.
True to form,
you shut off all artificial illuminence
and, at my request, settled
into slumber with the rest of the world.
Following your example,
I sunk into darkness
only to find that my mind feeds
off of this saturation of wavelength and bandwidth.
I am too young to
fully appreciate responsibility
and too old to live without it -
the purgatory of the twenty something.
So, I took a pen and sketched your mantle
in thick black ink until I realised
I am just a wordsmith,
deconstructing your deception.
