Letter to Live Poet Society

by Siri Lipscomb

Dear Fellow Poets:

Regrettably unable
To attend D.C. soiree
My dad in Florida blew his mind
And had a TIA

‘Tween that and Northwest Airlines
My life has been a mess
Just couldn’t make connections
Or easy things make sense

At this silver stage of life
I’m usually nonplussed
But I’m no longer up to
Taking trains and being bussed

So please accept my best regards
And apologies galore
Perhaps by next year I’ll be ready
Or it may take one more

In the meantime could you please
Send award or such by mail
I so looked forward to being there
Though spotlights make me pale

I’m not much at being in focus
It makes my stomach churn-y
So attract/ repel has been my challenge
On such a personal journey

I thank you for the chance to live
On my own edge of danger
It may be easier to be critique’d
By a knowing willing stranger

So when I have opportunity
To put myself back in it
I’ll sign up for the next shindig
And have my whole heart in it

I promise

This is beautiful! It gives poetry.com...plicated a whole new name. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Peace...
