Into the Dragon's Jaws

by Amy Niggel

Struggling,
crying,
fighting vainly,
even if it is valiant.
Pain surging
I see it in you
in the depths of your own hell
I see how you hurt
and feel powerless to help.
You led yourself here,
you started slowly killing yourself,
no one put the needle in you vein!
and I begged you to stop,
pleaded, crying for you to just think for a moment.
But you grew darker,
and I lost hope.
Now you come to me,
a shell of who you were,
wasting away to nothingness before my eyes,
and I find it hard to look at you.
but I do
I see a faint light in you again
a desire to live
you tell me you want out.
so I rally my strength
and make one last attempt.
I run head long
into the dragon's jaws.
My last chance to right old wrongs
and clear my conscience
of those who went like this before you.

A very sorrowful and heartfelt struggle presented with this. Touches a little close to home too.
