sea men drown(s) on nights like these

by Olivia Weinkein

that little caterpillar never stood a chance.
she layed on her back hoping he could build
her into a butterfly. but some things just
won't fly.
the seeds he planted were worthless flowers.
even in the dark, their destiny was set.
and she was wetter when he least expected it.
he was angrier when she forgot to care but it
all ends up spilling the same after awhile.
and that saltless taste will never be erased from
either of their hands.
