Almost Speechless

by Mainon A Schwartz

A long story, spun from the bowels of the earth
before redemption, looping thread to thought and
pulling taut, weaving prehistoric tapestries.

There is the tip of a finger in my mouth,
and a twinkle in your eye that speaks
of mysteries formed before the invention
of language. My tongue and your skin have
founded the science of communication.

Such pretentiousness, to think that lines and loops
can symbolize the way we were. Progress is distancing
us from our selves, distorting us in two dimensions.

There is a quick wild breath that encapsulates
the longing of this moment, and the trembling
of your lips, warm and tentative, send such shivers
through my body that they echo across infinity,
without aid of paper, pen, or ink.

actions speak louder, perhaps? just goes to show that we spend so much time on these words and they hardly scratch the surface of the emotions they're meant to convey. this poem shows this perfectly :)

What Mr. O said is pretty much what I was going to bring up. The poem makes me think of primal and emotional urges that can't be expressed with words. An excellent bit of poetry.

Stirring! Great Read, the words and thoughts they made me think certainly made me speechless.
