C. Two Eyes

by Christel Crews

I came in with one intent
coffee, I needed coffee.
I didn't stop to see you sitting there
in your favorite oversized chair.
As I ordered my drink, I felt that weird feeling
when you know someone is watching you.
I shrugged it off as I ran out the door.

I wandered into the crowded room
and found a seat in the back.
The music was nice and melodic,
though I didn't know the words, I hummed along.
Then again, I felt two eyes staring at me
and as I glanced around the room,
I didn't see a thing.
As the minister finished his sermon
I grabbed my bag and ran for the door.

Driving through the narrow streets
attempting to sort my caotic mind,
I decided to park and wander by foot.
I came to a small clearing with a small fountain
and their you were waiting for me.
Sitting contently on a bench,
you knew I'd end up here.
Handing me a hot cup of tea, you smiled and said
"Sit down, my love"
Embarrased, I sat because it all made sense.

"You've been watching me lately"
I said ashamed
"And I was too busy to see you"

You smiled your half smile and lovingly took me in your arms
"Child, I have never stopped watching you.
I couldn't if I tried!
I love you so much, I can't get enough of you"

As I relaxed in the security of his arms,
my heart sank.
How many times had I gone through an entire day
without even a "hello"?
In a whisper I said,
"I'm sorry"

And all he said was "I know"

'And all he said was "I know"', if one can stick to this knowing.Beautiful.
