viridian (the green goes on forever)

by Richard Paez

it could be beautiful
down here in the green
i could plant myself here
{if not for the litter}

under the wounded
brush and shadow
of this river-cut glen
where roots and paths
lay bare and un-shamed
i could find peace
{if not for the traffic}

under the wounded
architecture of leaves
i could be fluid
{and reptile}
again

how to grow this
out of human terms?
how to express this,
the coming of the ants,
the vermilion swarming
under twigs and vines?

surrounded like this
down here in viridian
i can almost pretend
that the green goes on
i can almost pretend
that the green goes on
{forever}

Author's Note:
I am aching tired of humanity.

Some times you just have to forget all your human concerns... reverting to an earlier form is probably the best solution. (certainly not easiest, though ;) ) I really like this. Especially how during a more thoughtful part, it snaps back to reality (if not for the litter, if not for the traffic)

Kermitian poetry, malachi. It does go on forever, as evidenced by your emerald cut poem. I especially like the way you tour the reader through life in a vegetative state. Stylish stuff, brother. Peace...

Pretending an endlessly green world continues to prove to be a useful mental skill, as all those viridian places become tiny patchworks across the land. A truly fascinating and beautiful way to look at our lost world.
