today 9/11

by Michele Schottelkorb

today the sorrow fills the sky
as I look up through shaded eyes

today a young one cries in pain
straddles the Earth and prays for rain

today a man is reduced to shambles
loses himself; drinks and gambles

today a young mother screams with rage
nothing can help, not even some sage

today a body washes ashore
a town weeps; and shuts the door

today a baby learns to bleed
no father there, no trusty steed

today a polar bear is too hot
and wishes for a frozen spot

today a tree shrieks from a blade
as it's ancestors begin to fade

today a fish grows two heads
and we sit idly in our beds

today I must be thankful for
my life, my loves and nothing more

Author's Note: just some thoughts on this day of all days... i have more verses to add... but, well... here is this... my prayers to all mourning today, and every day...
