The Dancer

by Kimberly Bare

The best advice I'll ever heed
came from an unexpected source.
One day I was walkin' down the street
saw a blue haired lady sittin' on her porch.
Lookin' at me with a smile on her face.
She said, "Won't you come and sit for a while?
I'll tell you how I got to this place."
"In my day I was a headstrong gal,
all I wanted to be was a dancer,
on the stage, a broadway star you see."
Oh, she proceeded to tell me her story.
Even showed me a picture of her name in lights.
She said,"I left it all the day my leading man made me his wife."
"But, oh, he's passed away now, just a month ago today.
I will always remember the words he used to say."

You gotta dance, dance, dance like there's nobody watching.
Sing as though noone could hear.
Love like there's no tomorrow.
And smile, smile, smile through all of your tears.

With a far off look in her eyes
she danced back inside.
And I never saw her again.
But for the rest of my days I shall
remember the words that she said.

You gotta dance, dance, dance like there's nobody watching.
Sing as though noone could hear.
Love like there's no tomorrow.
And smile, smile, smile through all of your tears.

Yes, You gotta smile through all of your tears.
