entwined

by Kimberly Bare

words fell from your lips
dripping
like blood from the prick of a fingertip

carelessly

you splattered the remnants
across the blank canvas
of me
then called it your masterpiece

your name is waiting on my tongue
thick with emotion
the taste of you lingers

salty

like the tears flowing as i caress
a faceless pillow
crushing soft petals of the flowers
you never gave me

still i lay, hopelessly entwined,
in your nonexistent embrace
