on (un)dying faith

by Philippa Jane

Monday morning bestowed
upon me a shiny token
on which the Bible's
reminder was engraved:

For God so loved the world
that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting
life.

I remember Billy sitting
beside me under the
Washington sky - a
befriended stranger so openly
expressing his desire for
me to seek solace in God's
house;

his bold belief in the unknown.

I lost my undying faith
somewhere amongst
preadolescent prayers to
the god who defied science
and stole you from me
during the momentary close
of my eyes.

Author's Note: The Bible passage was taken from John 3. 16. (I'm no expert - just copying the back of this shiny coin - so I apologize if I made any mistakes.)

his bold belief in the unknown. I wish I had this. I think in a small way, I am struggling to invent a bold belief in anything through reading and writing. Thankyou for contributing to this little thing I call my life. It's so nice to have someone to share this passion for writing with. I am inspired daily by the people around me...
