the playa calls

by Michele Schottelkorb

in the recesses of our minds
theories beckon; questions beg

answer us this:

from whence we came, we should return
can we?

eyespopopen w i d e
a thousands lights in the midnight sky

smell the dust
lick the salt

ponder on this for a thousand years

reap the rewards of silence
and enjoy
(enjoy the silence)

a copper ring glistens
a bejeweled forehead smiles

listen for a moment
and feel through your exterior

the playa calls... we hear you

Fantastic imagery that meshes with natural and introspective tones. Great verse.
