i never really loved you

by Melinda Sordino

my eyes they graze across the place
where you alone once stood
my mind can picture perfectly your face
more detailed than it should.
but i never really loved you.

i needed something else that night
more than the world can give
i wanted someone to fight my fights
allowing me to live
but i never really loved you

we had sex, we did not make love-
i couldn't even feel
my mind was floating high above
and nothing seemed too real
because i never really loved you

and so through the years i've cheated you
pretending with the best
you said to me it's too good to be true
inside i felt repressed
because i never really loved you

i vow to show you the verity
i know the pain will slice
you will see with clarity
you have already paid a price
because i never loved you at all.
