Old Friends

by Amy Niggel

When last we parted
you called me goddess
you kissed the ground I walked on
and yet couldn't understand why I was sad to see you leave.
I cried myself to sleep that night
and woke with a headace
at the knowledge you would no longer be
right down stairs
right across campus
right there
whenever I needed you
I swore I wouldn't miss you
and I didn't
till you told me you'd be coming back again
now I count down days
and I wait impatiently
for you to hug me
and call me goddess
your hugs always could make everything else go away
make everything seem like its all right again
I never understood why you could do that for me
I miss my partner in crime
and the person I fought with all the time
and the one person I always swore
I would drop everything for at point in life
if only he asked me to.
And soon we see each other again
and it will be like we never left
because that is how we are
nothing more than old friends

Author's Note: Dedicated to my boy Andrew who I get to see again in a couple of days, we have never been anything more than friends and never will be anything more than friends but he is one of the good ones and I can't wait to spend some time with him.
