A Poet's Journey by Beth K HannahI am blissfully blank
No words of decaying honesty
Heartbroken lies
Or sad fairytales
Escape my humble pen
I am carefully trying to merge
All my ideas
Hopes and dreams
Onto these pages
As if a person can give life
To the extinguished flame
Of my mind
I etch myself
Into these simple words
Cliched nuances
Overused puns and prose
Trying to be eloquent
To differentiate my life
From my own ten fingers 09/02/2003 Posted on 09/02/2003 Copyright © 2024 Beth K Hannah

many memorable lines. i love the blank page of the mind, but then the critic comes in, worried about cliches and overused phrases. we do our best work when we shut up the censor and UNthink, eh? |
Posted by Cymbre Dolphay on 09/05/03 at 04:07 AM Reminds me of the sonnet we discussed in Shakespeare today. Yours is far better though in my opinion. Not as self-centered as his:) |
Posted by Rula Shin on 01/18/04 at 11:24 PM So cool, and I agree completely with Don. *I am blissfully blank* - for a poet sometimes an oxymoron :-) Did we run out of ideas while fumbling with phrases and words?
*As if a person can give life
To the extinguished flame
of my mind*
But there is hope yet for the poet -
*I etch myself
Into these simple words...To differentiate my life From my own ten fingers*
Suddenly, you've etched your soul on paper despite *overused puns and prose* and filled your page with meaning. At least that's what I saw - great poem
