Come back around

by Aaron Howard

Maybe I’ll see you one day…
Maybe you won’t be so profound…
Maybe you’ll know what to say..
Maybe I’ll come back around…

Once upon a time, as they always say.
Everything was calm on our proverbial bay..
Then one day you jumped ship and fell in love
and it seemed that I didn’t fit anymore to your shove.
So I set sail on my own path of destruction
without any prior consent or instruction.
Twiddled my thumbs with the best of them
Stuck, hiding in bed like Brian Wilson…
Crept up on in the middle of my own daydream
This reality that just makes me want to scream.

So now things don’t look so bleak anymore
since that morning that you walked out my door..
Things aren’t better, but they are better than none
since it seems in this game of lies, you won…
For now, I’ll just wander the past in dreams…
Where I can make it something other than it seems…
Standing here on this desolate ground…
You never know, I might come back around…
