the moths that live inside us by Olivia Weinkeinthere's a girl somewhere
that loves you because of
winter and the thoughts that
grow there. sometimes she finds
herself sleeping in their memories
but summer strangles all hope
of her finding her way back there
again.
and when it rains she recognizes
failure as a ghost of something she
could never be to you. you,
of course would never be able to
recognize it but think of silence,
then go further than that.
and it's been six good days since she
hasn't felt like fading but the seventh
day is always spent before you even realize
what it is you're paying for.
and when she closes her eyes, she can
hear you and when she breathes, she can
feel you struggling sometimes to get away
but most times to peel your image from
her hands, to leave your imprint somewhere
else this time. it's dirty and torn and in constant
bleeding but she will swallow anything and
you know this. you helped create it. her.
but one day, she will eventually wake to forget you.
seasons will no longer find reason in reminding
her of you and you will finally be free but not better
off.
you will not be better off without her.
