4G's and Some Pills

by S.J. Tyler

Brand new day, new classes, new friends
Bad classes with no friends
Your old "friend" kissing his new one
Not that you're that fragile but,
it doesn't make your bad day better

Feeling so depressed, alone, unsocial
Only going through the motions
It's not so bad, but no good either
Starting to sink, forgetting the good in life
but then, you stumble upon a new person
or maybe he stumbles upon you

A person who makes you forget all of that
Who wants to know you, for you
Despite everything you think is wrong with you
Surprisingly enough, you
Want to get to know him too

Knowing someone is there who feels this way about you
Makes your bad days seem shorter
Makes you happier just knowing that in a few short minutes
you'll get to be with him
you want to shout out your happiness to the world,
or at least everyone you meet
you take back everything nasty you've said
about couples in love

Just the fact that he is there
Makes you want to be a better person
Change the way you act towards people
Share your happiness with others
Hey, if misery is contagious, maybe happiness is too...

and slowly you feel like you're on a constant high
You're speeding on a one-way track, and you're locked in
You only see the other passenger in the cart
the rest of the world is a blur of places and faces
It's only been a week but you never want this feeling to end

Any drug you take, any yoga you do
won't make you ever feel this good
You can't buy it, make it or choose it
but then, your stash runs out
All that euphoria from before has sobered out of you
You're left shaking, cold, hollow and alone on the floor

and even after you've gotten over the withdrawal
you're still picking up the pieces
of a life you left in the dust, forgotten
and you're back living in motions
Until someone new comes along, and hands you a shiny new token
For another mind twisting, body flailing, heart wrenching ride

Care to take another hit?

Author's Note: Pre-Valentine's day junk. I had such a wonderful outlook on love, didn't I?
