A Dream of Death

by Christopher Shin

Why is it that the fortunate
in life fear her?
And those less fortunate,
pray for her to come to them early?
I had a dream that she came
to me in my bedrom.

She nodded her head sadly with
much pity for my ignorance.
I called to her hoping that
she would stop for a moment.
But she turned and walked away.
I screamed for her to come back,
but all I saw was her shadow.

I lunged out my bed expecting
to see her, but was only greeted
with my existance in life.
I searched the room for someone,
but only found a dark and grey
room.

I slumped on my bed as I pulled
my green sheets towards me.
Only to find comfort that
I had a glimmer of her for just
a moment in a dream.
I rocked my body as I feel
the sadness of not being
taken so early.

Even with her dark locks and
pale empty eyes I seem to
regret that she came to me in
my dream.

i love it...expressing the desire to be gone is a hard thing to capture, and you do it so well...wonderfully written and expressed
