my jagged edge

by Karen Michelle

i parted my lips and
sucked in the eastern air;
cold and brimming
with wintery opportunity.

leaning forward,
i pressed my hunger
against your desire
and tasted escape.

through open doors,
i felt another world
trailing down your tongue
and into my own.

a northern boy
loving a southern girl
in the darkness
and upturned night.

and these images
bounce between memory
and regret, as i vow
to lock you away forever.

the world will never know that i live in whispers...

Love this one. (And you're pretty darn great, too.)
