Vampire

by S.J. Tyler

When you’re born with a taste for blood
All is red
Shiny
Glowing
Throbbing
You want it to flow
Thinly
As waters
Fluid rubies
Lap it up and choke
On the indescribable pleasure and happiness
Its warmth and flavor
The best dessert
Sweet with the salt of tears
The darker the berry the sweeter the juice
So make a slice and let it loose
More satisfying than gushers
And bursting with more
It’s life that I swallow
I opened death’s door
Open those veins and let me through
It isn’t a bite
Gash and suck

You don’t understand
Why it tastes as good as it does
I’m sick
But it doesn’t bother me
You give me dirty looks
Want to admit me
Want to muzzle me up
Tie me to a post
But I only hurt myself
Don’t burst your jugular
It’s a show for me
Just a balancing act
How much can I take?
How deep can I go?
It never hurts
Will it ever?
No, it’s not a wound
Just a flavor, just a taste
Mouth and tongue, stained a bright red
Candy apples at the tip of my lips
Aches for more
Great red shark
Bite and stab and watch it pour
Waterfalls but blood gushes
Covers its source until it’s gone
At the bottom of a pool
Of an opaque puddle with the clearest reflection
See yourself in your own blood
It carries your life
Your self, your identification,
Your history and your future
You started with blood
And that’s where you’ll end
Mine just completes a circle
Never leaves my circulation
And quenches my thirst
Don’t worry about me
Because I’m alright
I don’t want my blood wasted
On unworthy beings
