Twenty Four Bars, Three/Four Time by David NeubauerBring the funk and burn the sadness
revel in your star-eyed madness
Let the demons running through you
find your heart, music consume you
Burning tranceless, dancing fastest
Let the beat wash over you.
Find yourself a neon idol
find a place where you can hide all
traces of the scary places
dwelleing there behind our faces
burning brightly, falling lightly
Let the beat wash over you.
Find yourself a raging fire
be it small or funeral pyre
find yourself new falling stars to
break your chains, destroy your bars, too
keep on breathing, music seething
Let the beat wash over you.
Spirit moving in its glory
writing out kinetic story
find a way to burn your matches
buckle up and baton hatches
keep on turning, dancing, burning,
Let the beat wash over you. 08/18/2003 Author's Note: I like the way this turned out...

Posted by Kristine Briese on 08/18/03 at 04:40 PM I agree with Arline; perfect rhythm. Well done. |
Posted by Mainon A Schwartz on 09/24/03 at 05:25 PM Lovely-- the pulsing endrhyme and the occasional pleasure of internal rhyme is well-woven. My only complaint-- the poem slips (for the very first time) into cliche in the second-to-last line, and I would so very much have loved to end on a high note, like the one on which you began. |
