My Cousin Jason

by Amanda L Marron

i remember those summer days

when i used to visit you and play

outside in the fields or pool

just about a month before school

you used to take me on the tractor for a ride

when it was time to come back home, i cried

it was always the best time of year

sitting on the porch with you watching for deer

we used to sit up every night

just talking or playing video games but never to fight

every time we'd get a little bit older

but these memories will never molder

always was i excited to see you

evermore you made me smile when i was blue

we stood together saying our final goodbyes to our grandmother

at that time you felt less like a cousin and more like a brother

its been a long time since those days when all was swell

every year gets more frustrating can't you tell?

i miss those innocent days of being with my cousin

he'd be my pick out of a baker's dozen

i remember those times before your girlfriends came along

when we went to Saratoga and watched the furlong

and walking about the Altamont Fair

in those days we didn't have a care

just one more thing that made my every year

let me just now make it clear

that i've never forgotten our times together spent

i hope you understand the words in the letter i sent

Jason, you'd always been the one i'd call

well you're my favorite cousin after all
