::desert fire::part one::

by Bethany Lee

It was with great hesitation that my eyes opened, knowing what i would see before i saw it...while my eyelids were lifting, i realized it was just my skin and i, wrapped between blankets of fur...

"Chinchilla for your soft heart," my blood sped faster at this voice that wasn't my own. "Panther for your feline prowl," a deep rumbling in the words, masculine, but genteel, "and mink for your marvelous minx appetite..." i dared not return the words with my heart ascending my throat. "Your eyelids flutter like butterflies in the breeze. Open them and see me, keeper of the Heart..." i did as requested by this man, or perhaps god or ghost. by the familiar voice, i was betting on the latter. I took in the sight of him, and it was a long awaited oasis. his hair fell to his hips, in a river of golden delight. his broad smile purred soft in my ear. i felt nothing but warmth at first sight...after a few eternal moments, reason began to overtake my mind, and i was once again confused...

(who are you? where did my clothes go? shed skin...)

"Still taciturn i see, and full of overwhelming humanity..." he left his cross-legged stance to come closer, and i was a fawn caught straight in the headlights of the glorious sun..."Breathe with your Soul, not your mistaken mind". the closer his presence got to me, the quicker i drew in air...and it was no longer fear that compelled me, but his heat and the primal hunger in his eyes as he looked at me. his shining eyes stared in to mine, then his gaze headed downward, slowly, stopping at the curves of my neck. i felt the intensity of his admiration of every pore on my skin. i felt his wet kisses sliding to my collar bone, and he was still a few graceful steps away.

you are a shining star in my infinite blackness...
